Rabbit dreams: the moon rabbit, gentleness and quick steps

Look at a full moon in Korea or China and you are told to find a rabbit. In Korea the jade rabbit pounds rice cakes; in China it pounds the elixir of life for the moon goddess. Dream reading gives the rabbit a soft, bright character: gentleness, cleverness and small joys.

In East Asian tradition

Because it lives in the moon, a white rabbit in a dream is often read as a pure, kind person or a quiet piece of good news. Rabbits also breed quickly, so several rabbits together are traditionally associated with a growing household or a series of small gains.

Korean folk tales add wit. In the tale of the rabbit and the turtle from the Dragon King's palace, the rabbit talks its way out of danger by claiming it left its liver on land. A clever rabbit in a dream can therefore be read as finding a way out of a tight spot. A rabbit that runs away is read as a chance that needs a quicker response.

A modern, mind-side reading

From the mind's side, a rabbit can reflect softness and alertness at once. It may appear when you feel tender or a little exposed, or when you are jumping between many small tasks. A calm rabbit can mirror a wish for simple comfort; a startled one can mirror nerves before something new.

Element link

The rabbit is the branch 卯, yin Wood in mid-spring and the hours around sunrise. It sits at the due east of the branch circle, where growth is at its most tender and green. That places the rabbit firmly in Wood: soft new shoots, quick growth and a fresh start each morning.
