GLIDE is a two-minute wing foil session at Jericoacoara, Brazil. The sky glows orange at sunset, resort buildings, a lighthouse, palm trees and beach parasols line the shore, and a small boat tows a banner past a distant island. The start screen says it plainly: this is a session, not a race.
What sets GLIDE apart is the foil. At low speed the board drags through the water, but past about 12 knots the hydrofoil lifts it clear. The speed panel shows a foil bar and your ride height in centimetres, up to about 50 cm. The wind is lighter than for kiting, around 15 knots (roughly 8 to 22), and its direction keeps swinging through offshore, side-off, side-on, onshore and downwind on a compass. Side winds give the most drive.
How to play
- Choose one of seven wing canopies on the start screen and tap Start session.
- Hold the wing: your left thumb works the front handle and your right thumb the back handle. Lower the back hand to open the wing to the wind and lower both hands to load it up. Lifting both hands puts the wing into a lighter cruising position.
- While still on the water, double-tap (or press Space) to pump. Each pump adds a little speed; a few pumps with a powered wing lift you onto the foil.
- Ride through the bright gust lines on the water. Each one gives an instant speed boost and a 'GUST +kt' popup.
- Once you are foiling, the same double-tap launches a jump. Spin if you like, then come back level before you touch down.
- After two minutes the Session Log shows top speed, distance, the share of time spent foiling, and total air time.
Controls
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Wing angle | Touch: left half = front hand, right half = back hand; the height difference between them sets the angle. Keys: Left/Right arrows or A/D |
| Wing height (power / cruise) | Touch: move both hands down for power, up to cruise. Keys: Down arrow or S for power, Up arrow or W to ease off |
| Pump | Double-tap, or Space, while the board is on the water |
| Jump | Double-tap, or Space, while foiling |
| Spin in the air | Left/Right arrows, or a height difference between your two hands |
| Start | Tap Start session, or press Enter |
Rules
- A session lasts 2 minutes and the clock is shown top right.
- You can only jump while foiling. On the water the jump input becomes a pump.
- Landing within about 25 degrees of level with a gentle drop counts as CLEAN and keeps most of your speed.
- Landing between about 25 and 45 degrees counts as BUMPY: you keep riding but lose a good chunk of speed.
- Landing more than 45 degrees off, or dropping too fast, is a CRASH: most of your speed is gone, the screen flashes red and the wing has no power for 1.5 seconds.
- Solo sessions share the water with six computer riders. In an online room one drops out for each person who joins, and at least one stays.
Tips
- Pump early: two or three pumps with the wing loaded is the quickest way past 12 knots.
- When the compass swings toward side-on, the same wing position gives more drive.
- Line up the next gust line; each one is worth about 3 knots.
- Keep spins small until you can land level. A bumpy landing beats a crash.
FAQ
Why can I not jump?
Jumps only work while foiling. Get past about 12 knots with the wing loaded and a few pumps, and the foil bar turns green.
What do the centimetres under the speed mean?
How high the board rides above the water on its foil. It reads TOUCHING WATER when you are not foiling.
Does the wind change?
Yes. Strength moves roughly between 8 and 22 knots and the direction keeps turning, shown live on the compass.
Can I ride with friends?
Yes. In the + menu, the play icon opens a room with a 4-character code and the invite button shows a link to copy. Friends who open it ride their own wing in your session, with chat and emoji reactions.
Is there a coach?
An AI button in the + menu takes short questions, and automatic tips can appear after take-off or a crash. The automatic tips can be switched off.
Do I need to install or sign in?
No. It runs in the browser on phone or computer, in English, Korean, Chinese or Vietnamese.
