About What to Talk About Today?
Free in your browser - no install. For people aged 18 or over.

What to Talk About Today? pairs you with one person in another country who is shaking their phone - or pressing the button - at the same moment. What you say reaches them in their language, and what they say reaches you in yours, so the two of you can have a short talk without sharing a language.
Each day has one world topic, so there is always something to start with. Before you sign in you can try it with Lingo, the practice partner; with a Google account you meet real people.
How to use it
- The first time, confirm that you are 18 or over and read the rules.
- Pick My language and Learning. Your own language is taken from your phone by itself.
- Shake the phone or press Shake. You can choose one-to-one, World, a language circle, or Compatibility.
- Speak or type. Speech is turned into text and shown to the other person in translation.
- After a talk - or under today's topic on the first screen - press Post to the feed to leave a note about it. Nothing about the other person is attached.
What you can choose
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1:1 | Just you and one person shaking now |
| World | People from several countries on today's topic |
| Language circle | A group talking in the language you are learning |
| Compatibility | A look at who suits you |
| My language / Learning | The two languages the translation runs between |
Staying safe
- Be kind. No insults, no sexual talk, no pressing someone to meet.
- Phone numbers, e-mail addresses, links and social media IDs are hidden automatically.
- Press Report at any time: the chat ends and you will not be paired with that person again.
- Chats are not stored. Only a reported chat keeps its last 20 messages for review, for up to 90 days.
