Bing 丙 Fire Day Master: the Sun

丙 (Bing) is yang Fire, pictured as the sun that lights up the whole world. As a day master it is read as open, bright energy that shines outward on everyone at once.

丙 at a glance

丙 is the third heavenly stem, yang Fire. Haru's engine gives it the image of "the sun lighting up the whole world" and describes its nature as "a bright, open character that shows things plainly".

Its yin partner 丁 is a candle: a small flame that lights one room. The sun does not choose whom to shine on. That is the heart of the 丙 image, warmth that is generous and public rather than close and private.

How the tradition describes the 丙 temperament

The tradition paints 丙 people as the sun: warm, direct, visible, and quick to cheer others up.

Which months help 丙

By the deLing rule a month helps a Fire day master when its branch is Fire or Wood, because Wood produces Fire. That gives four branches: 寅 and 卯 in spring, 巳 and 午 in summer.

Notice that 未, although a summer month, is Earth and does not count here, while the spring months do. In 2026 the 巳 month begins at 立夏 on 2026-05-05 20:49 KST and the 午 month at 芒種 on 2026-06-06 00:48 KST. The engine has one more summer detail: if a chart is born in summer with Fire at 25% or more and Water under 15%, it chooses Water as the useful element to cool the heat, before any strength rule.

How 丙 meets the other nine stems

From 丙, the Earth stems 戊 and 己 are its output (Eating God and Hurting Officer), the sunlight that ripens the fields. The Water stems 壬 and 癸 control Fire and become Seven Killings and Direct Officer. The Metal stems 庚 and 辛 are what Fire controls, so they become the two Wealth gods.

Foods and the reasoning behind them

The useful element depends on the whole chart. A weak 丙 chart is helped by Wood (the element that feeds the flame) or by Fire itself. A strong or balanced chart is steadied by whichever of Earth, Metal or Water is scarcest.

This page illustrates two of those answers: Wood on the support side, and Metal on the release side, the element the sun "works on" as Wealth. The table lists the engine's everyday foods for both, with their traditional colour and taste. Because the summer rule points to Water for a hot chart, the tradition also leans on the engine's cooling list (cucumber, pear, mung beans, tofu, lotus root) in hot months. These are ordinary kitchen habits, not treatments.

Rest hour卯時 05-07h: stretch gently early in the morning酉時 17-19h: breathe quietly as the day ends

Movement and rest

On the Wood side the engine suggests forest walks and stretching, and the 卯 hour (05:00-07:00) for stretching gently early in the morning. On the Metal side it suggests deep breathing and light strength training, and the 酉 hour (17:00-19:00) for quiet breathing as the day ends. For a sun image, that pairing reads naturally: rise with the light, then let it set calmly.

One stem is not the whole chart

Two 丙 day masters can read completely differently: one born in a Water-heavy winter, one born at midsummer. The tradition reads the stem inside its season and alongside seven other characters. This page is a description of the image and rules, not a verdict on anyone.

Questions

Does a 丙 day master always need Water?

No. The engine picks Water first only for summer-born charts where Fire is 25% or more and Water under 15%. Other 丙 charts follow the strength rules.

Why is 丙 compared with the sun and 丁 with a candle?

Both are Fire; yang Fire is pictured as large and outward, yin Fire as small and focused. The images come from facts.stems in Haru's engine.

Why are Metal stems "wealth" for 丙?

In the ten gods, the element you control is Wealth. Fire controls Metal, so 庚 and 辛 become Indirect and Direct Wealth.

Does summer always help a Fire day master?

Summer 巳 and 午 months count as having the season, but the tradition always weighs the whole chart, and too much heat is itself a balance question.
